Poster

I another created poster to give me various ideas on the final product for my thriller film. I used a dark scary woods, as scenery to create an eerie atmosphere for the viewer as well as a female figure with her back turned, walking into the dark forest alone relating the a scene that happens within the film itself. I used star ratings in the top right and left corners to interest viewers to hopefully come and view my film in the full experience at the cinema. I located 'Hear My Cry' at the top of the page in red to create a colour scheme the viewer can relate to the film itself, but also so it is the first aspect of the poster the viewer actually looks at. The credits are placed at the bottom because viewers aren't really interested in these specific information. An lastly the tag line of "Isolated, Lost, Alone...", related to the movie itself as the young girl, Emily, doesn't become all three of the aspects but also creates mystery for the viewer so they want to come and find out what happens to the young girl.

Actions

I decided to a created a 3D view of what my front cover of a film magazine would look like on a real magazine to give a more effective view of the film cover featuring my film, 'Hear My Cry'. I done this particular technique by adding actions to the photoshop software where my work i had created was present, which then allowed me to process this format. i think it is useful to use as it gives an idea of how professional it looks and how the target audience would be presented with the advertisement of my film. It gives me ideas on what to improve to make it distinctive from other typical similar magazine and also how i can make my look as professional as possible. i like how the first aspect i notice on the page itself is the image as  it is bold and stands out on the page, this is useful  as it will hopefully catch the audience's eye and make them want to buy the magazine to find out more information about this particular film. The next significant aspect I personally believe is the title of the film, 'Hear My Cry', the fact it is hand written and has a gothic reference empathises the horror/thriller element of the film itself. I do also personally believe the magazine looks realistic as it features a bar code, sub headings aswell as a main heading, a real film magazine logo and a slogan.

scenery

I found this particular scenery very effective as it creates a dark eerie atmosphere for the audience whn looking at it which i was hoping to achieve.

Film cover research

I researched various horror/thriller film front covers that feature the film itself. I found these following two the most effective towards me for various reasons.

This particular one if effective towards me as the main imaged used is a close-up shot of the main character wearing dark makeup to express something happens to him within the film itself, giving hints to the audience about what may happen. the dark background creates tension and a eerie atmosphere. The big title of the name of the magazine itself is printed across the top of the page so people are able to recognise the magazine and likely want to buy it. i prefer this layout of the magazine as it doesn't look to clustered and in the readers face and shows important aspects that they need to know.

This specific magazine front cover featuring a film, uses an effective image as it is unusual and the reader is unlikely to have seen a similar image like this on a front cover making this particular one distinctive and rememberable. Again 'Empire' is printed across the top of the page so people are able to recognise the magazine itself. The writing is spread all over the page, which i am unsure whether or not it is effective towards the reader because maybe they find it difficult to take in all of the various information.

My Poster

I decided to choose a dark background to enhance the tension created for the audience and also create an eerie atmosphere. I chose a dominant character as the main part of power to signify to the viewer she plays a main part in the film and indicates something bad is likely to happen to her. I used dark makeup to relate to the plot as i thought it would be effective and more realistic for the audience when watching the movie itself. The big bright light coming from the top right hand corner symbolises she is nearly dead and reaching for the light, however not quite there and still a little bit alive, confusing the reader to why she is still alive and what her intentions may be. i located the title, 'Hear My Cry' near the bottom of the page, quite small to indicated she is screaming for help from someone but it isn't very loud, and lets the audience decide if anyone actually hears. The star rating by 'The Daily Mail' and 'The Mirror' explains to the audience that it is going to be a good film and they're most likely to enjoy it, if they watch it. On the back cover of the DVD i placed blood spots to indicate death has occurred but it doesn't quite explain who, so the viewer is left guessing. The tag line of 'Isolated, Lost, Alone' indicated to the audience she needs help but they're unsure onto why that is so therefore resulting in tension being created for them.

Another Draft

I decided to modify the back cover and remove the 'special features' and blood spot as it was an experiment to see if they were actually effective to my dvd cover itself.

My DVD Cover

This is a daft i created for my thriller trailer called 'Hear My Cry'.

I decided to choose a dark background to enhance the tension created for the audience and also create an eerie atmosphere. I chose a dominant character as the main part of the front cover to signify to the viewer she plays a main part in the film and indicates something bad is likely to happen to her. I used dark makeup to relate to the plot as i thought it would be effective and more realistic for the audience when watching the movie itself. The age rating of '15' i think is relevant as it contains violence and strong language, by locating it at the bottom right hand corner is effective as the viewer is able to see and recognise the symbol without it effecting the tension created. The two images underneath the summary, show the dark forest to where Emily was last seen, a scene within the film. And the other image of the man is her father who abuses her, is this who killed her? it is left to the audience to make this particular judgement. i added the blood spot and 'special features' as i personally thought they were effective to the audience and worked well with my dvd cover.

Location

Here is a two images of a possible significant locations i am going to use in my horror/thriller trailer, 'Hear My Cry'. I think they will be effective towards my target audience as they meets the criteria required of stereotypical horror film, as it is dark and isolated. The trees are close together which i particularly like as i believe it creates more tension as you are unaware as to what is present in the forest itself. the dark lighting helps empathise the tension created as they audience are expecting something negative to occur. I am kind of breaking the generic conventions of a horror/thriller in the snow image if i decide to actually use this particular scene as they don't often contain snow, however i like how bright it looks, but also how cold and isolated it makes the audience feel.

Potential Problems

Potential Problems

A significant obstacle i feel i will face is relying upon other people to act within my trailer or shot for my poster and magazine front cover, as if they they are unwilling to do it any more i have to find other willing people, or as some of them have to coursework to complete themselves for various other subjects they will want to concentrate on that topic and not be able to find time to help me out on mine. Therefore i may choose people i completely rely on so i know they are very unlikely to let me down, but also people who don't have to concentrate on coursework just yet so it's easier for them and don't feel under pressure. Also, another problem may be the weather, as i need it to be dark to meet my required criteria for the trailer so it creates more tension however because of the dark nights due to winter, i don't finish till 4.30 and 5 some nights from college therefore resulting in it been to dark to actually see any characters or objects. Therefore i feel the only way to tackle this specific occurrence is to film footage during a media lesson. The last significant obstacle i feel i may have to tackle, is finding the correct characters and props to suit my horror/film as they usually contain blood, vampires etc. To obtain this problem i will write a list of everything required before i even start to film my trailer and if i don't have anything needed i will modify the trailer with something i actually do have instead, hopefully i have everything though.

Experiment

I photoshopped an image that i may use on my dvd cover. I enhanced the colour to a more vibrant and effect colour for the target audience so it is more likely to catch the viewers eye and make them want to come and get the full experience by going to the cinema to watch this particular film. i decided to have dark makeup applied to her face to create a more tense atmosphere for the audience, also tried to make her look messy as she is a ghost who has been through a rough time, so i tried to portray this through the visual image. Therefore i personally believe i am containing good time management as i have experimented with various effects and giving me ideas of what the final product will look like.

Soundtacks/Sound effect

For my horror/thriller trailer, 'Hear My Cry' I would prefer an intense, scary sound track to create tension and make the audience expect something negative to happen at any point. This website link below its a link to various horror sound effects i feel are relevant to my trailer.

Changes i made...

I decided to make the following changes to hopefully make my poster more effective to my target audience. I increased the size of the girl to make it feel more realistic as she is more life size now. Also another modification i made was the title style and font, i hand writing it then scanned it onto the computer as i feel it looks more messy and horror like, which you would find on a horror/thriller poster to create tension and empathy for the audience.

Prop - Teddy Bear

Here is an image of a significant prop i will be using in my film trailer, 'Hear My Cry' as it is a symbol for the young girl who is innocently murdered. I like the look of it being rough looking referring to the fact the young girl has had a tough childhood but is still battling on bar everything that she has had to deal with, being mentally and physically by her fellow peers at school and also by her drunken, abusive father. The colour of the teddy bear represents how innocent the young girl actually is.

First Draft - Poster

I created a first draft of how i want my final poster about my thriller trailer, 'Hear My Cry' to be like. i thought the dark, scary woods is effective as in the trailer the girl is last seen alive running into the woods, the dark lighting empathises the tension created for the audience as they are scared for her as they know woods are create a dark, eerie atmosphere altogether. The fact i placed the girl looking back in between the tree's indicates to the audience she isn't likely to return from the woods but also that she is the first aspect the viewer is going to see when first glancing at the poster itself. I decided on making her faded to create tension but also portray a deeper meaning for the audience to work out for themselves and allow various interpretations of the film, the actually reason i done this particular effect was to show she is fading away as she is a ghost, because she ends up dead in the film but is still present with us, like her spirit is still around. 'Hear My Cry' is placed right in the middle of the poster, in a very small font so it relates to the film itself as she wants people to hear her however only her best friend does resulting in only her cry hardly been heard. I think i am going to modify the font to a more scary handwritten font as the current one i personally believe is rather feminine for the meaning it is actually portraying. The fact the font is red relates to the thriller/horror genre as red represents danger and consequently she ends up in danger in my film.

Images for my trailer

I practised a shot of a clock that may be featuring in my trailer for 'Hear My Cry' to give me first hand experience of what my overall trailer will look like when i'm finished, but also giving me an idea on various camera angles, and shots to find the most effective one for my thriller/horror trailer.

Equipment

Equipment Required

The equipment required to complete my A2 Media coursework will be a computer featuring the software 'Photoshop' so i am able to modify and make my poster and magazine front cover look professional and effective towards my target audience. This particular software is overly useful as it  is the most leading and popular graphic editing software provided by the adobe system is used to edit various kinds of images, it allows you to colour correct your images, prepare them for printing or web design web pages, create gif animations, you can modify images by painting or drawing on them by using the drawing tools, along with many other techniques. Another significant piece of equipment required for my to complete my trailer is a camera that allows me to video footage, this is a requirement as without i wouldn't be able to shoot my footage for my horror/thriller trailer, i may require a tripod especially for the scene where the young girl is being chased into the dark isolated forest.

My Storyboard

The images below are my storyboard explaining the scenes throughout my thriller/horror trailer for my film which i have decided to call 'Hear My Cry', as i do believe it is a very effective title that viewers are likely to remember as it is plain and simple, but has a very deep meaning relating to the film itself. As the main didactic purpose of the text is always seek justice and never settle till you succeed even if you feel like you are unable to. The hand drawn images are indicating what is going to happen in each specific scene. The trailer will start with photos of two young girls (best friends) to indicate to the audience that they're the main chacarters within the film. After a jump cut to a close-up of a clock is shown, indicating that the camera is going to pan around the clock with an empathesised 'tick-tock' sound to create tension for the audience, the deeper meaning of the ticking clock is that time is passing quickly, however the audience is unaware to why time is passing and the consequence of what may happen if the time runs out, this hopefully encourages them to visit the cinema and view the whole film. Another jump cut to a rough looking teddy bed on a messy bed appears on the screen at a medium shot that again the camera carries on in pan mode to pretend to be the audience looking around the young girls room. A newspaper article appears on the screen after a black screen express a murderer of a young girl, this is indicating to the audience that a murder occurs within the film, they will be curious as to who is the victim but also why. A extreme long shot of a young girl running into a dark forest with dim lighting suddenly flashes onto the screen, while the music gets faster creating tension for the viewer as they don't know what is going to happen to her, is she the girl that dies but how? After a rough looking man appears on the screen at a medium shot, screaming, the shot will be as if we as the audience are the young girl getting wrong by who we later find out is her father who is an alcohol and frequently abuses her.

A extreme close-up in bright lightening appears of the young girl crying to show her expression and hopefully make the audience sympathise with her. The trailers jump cuts to present and past to confuse the audience and create excitement. A black screen suddenly appears presenting the words "THIS SUMMER..WHERE FACT...BECOMES REALITY...BASED ON A TRUE STORY", this is a basic overview as to when the film, 'Hear My Cry' will be released, also creating tension b the use of 'Based on a true story' as i personally feel is its based on a true story the audience are more likely to sympathise with the character.A bright scene of different young girl hugging her mother appears on the screen, we later find out if you watch the film that this young girl is the victims best friend. It will be shown in a low angle long shot to indicate that we have less authority than the young girl as in the next few scenes of the trailer she is able to speak to her dead best friend and hopefully help her seek justice by finding her murderer. After, another long point of view shot showing the best friend at the victims grave which suddenly zooms into a extreme close-up of her face after the victim whispers 'Help me...' This is a supernatural element of the dead communicating with the living as it is unnatural and doesn't occur often. Not many of the audience will have witnessed a circumstance even similar to this so it will create thrill and make them want to watch the whole film to find out every little detail of who murdered the girl? does he get caught? what happens to her? how do they find out who murdered the young girl? ect The trailer ends when the music fades out, it will be another black screen featuring the words "COMING SOON...2013 IN CINEMA...THIS SUMMER" along side the website "www.hearmycry.co.uk" so anyone interested in any information about the film 'Hear My Cry' , are able to find out they inquires.

Audience Theories that relate to my media A2 coursework

The 'Uses and Gratifications theory' by Blumler and Katz 1974 can be applied to my A2 media coursework of a thriller trailer in various ways.
Diversion; The target audience may want to form an escape by going to the cinema to view this particular film in the full experience as they may have spare time on there hands and generally want to just relax by having a chilled night without any personal worries.
Personal Relationships; The target audience may be two best friends who realise that have a similar relationship as the one in the film, or anoher example would be a young girl linking her lifestyle to the one that the young girl has before she passes away.
Personal Identity;  Again, the target audience may have similar situations that they can relate to within the film for example if a particular person has just experienced a death they can relate as their is a death that occurs in my film, or if someone is/was bullied they can sympathises and connect directly to the film as it was an experience that they have witnessed for themselves in various ways. Lastly they may relate to someone within the film that they actually look up to and admire.
Surveillance; This would be taking note of other peoples lifestyles and showing the possible consequences of bullying innocent people. The film basically inidcates bullying is bad and consequences occur to a certain extent.

Stuart Hall
Know as the reception theory.
Dominant Reading; For a dominant reading within my film the target audience may resemble and fully believe situations in the way i actually intended them too. As they relate to the characters in particular ways, by their personalitys and reactions to certain aspects and situations. Basically in a positive way that i wanted them to.
Negotiated Reading; A negotiated reading for my target audience would be having various interpretations, mainly because of a particular person relating the film to personal experiences sometimes good and sometimes bad.
Oppositional Reading; This could relates as the target audience has various social positions which could make them rejects the film, maybe due to ceratin situations or characters within the film that they disapprove of for some reason.
Polysemy; My film will have multiple meanings being expressed by particular events that occur within the film but also ranging to characters and their reactions to ceratin situations. For example a viewer may interpret that a mysterious death occuring is interesting and keeping them on edge however another may find this particular event offensive resulting in not liking the film overall and upsetting a particular viewer. Also various viewers of the film may interpret certain meanings in various ways, both good and bad.
Third ideologies; The viewers will come up with seperate thoughts and ideas on particular events that occur within my thriller trailer.

Elements To Consider - A2 Media Coursework

Narrative: The narrative of my film that I am producing a trailer for is about a young girl who was bullied all throughout her childhood, but also abused by her father then suddenly she goes missing then is found died. She still communicates with her only best friend as she is trying to get her to find her murderer. I believe my film trailer will be an open structure as it denies resolution by leaving the audience to wonder what is going to happen next, hopefully making them want to go and get the full experience at the cinema by watching the movie.
Genre: The genre of my film is going to be thriller to create tension for the audience but to also keep them on edge to what is going to happen next. Therefore structuralism applies which the main code Hermeneutic from Barthes theory as it doesn’t give away the full truth and avoids telling certain facts about the narrative itself.
Characterisation: My main character that dies and is bullied all her childhood by peers but also her father will be timid, scared and weary of others, but contrast to that her only friend will be outgoing, confident and gets along with others very easily. Therefore Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions also applies to my film as the two main characters within my film are complete opposites however have a close relationship that links them together. The father is abusive, confident and heartless again contrast to his daughter, this is to show the contrast between certain people that the audience are able to relate to as they may know particular people that suit the stereotypes used within the film/trailer.
Setting: The main setting of the film will be located in a dark and gloomy forest where the young girl dies to create an eerie atmosphere for the audience but also a similar place they may recognise so they’re again able to relate to it as it is an area that resembles trouble within other particular horror/thriller scene especially in the dark. Another main place will be a graveyard to signifying the young girls death but also the relationship between the two best friends as it is the first place the friend hears or has connection with the dead young girl since she past away.
Props: I will use a wide range of props ranging from grave stones to basic furniture. A significant prop I will include in the film is a teddy bear to symbolise the young girl but also they’re often used to represent a child but ironically in this circumstance it resembles death and loss due  to the death of the young girl, but it is the only physical item the best friend has of the dead young girl to remind her excluding memories, however it is also the only thing that connects the two girls together.
Costume: The costume of the young dead girl will be dark, ripped like clothing to represent she has had a traumatic experience, with dark and light makeup to symbolise a dead look. Again contrast to this her best friend will be fashionable with bright clothing therefore, binary opposition applies to my film trailer again representing the contrast between the two best friends.
Cast: I will have various cast members.

DVD Covers

I have chosen three dvd covers i personally find effective and useful to help me decide my final image for my dvd cover on my thriller movie.

This particular image i personally feel is overly effect due to the butterfly covering the models mouth, i like this as it could relate to my thriller movie as she is unable to speak and save herself and has her best friend to do everything for her to try and find her killer. The close up of the white face and red eyes signifys the horror and danger the younge girl felt when she was murdered but could also represent her whole childhood of been bullied.

The image above i find very effective as it is unquie and unusal. The low angle of the lower body with the blood is also relevant to my movie trailer as the young girl was murdered and no-one knows who commited the crime. I would contrast the image from a bright background to a dark gloomy forest like image to create tension for the viewer as in my movie the girl runs into the forest.

The last image i found inspiring was the one above as the over the shoulder, close-up shot shows the horror and expression on the girls face which is significant as the young girl in my movie trailer has felt that all her life but especially when she was murdered. The dark makeup to create bruising and blood i find effective as is it very relevant and makes the audience wounder how she recieved this particular damage which makes them want to view the film for themselves.

Prezi Presentation

http://prezi.com/t9pcwxxaqqnh/seven-barthes-theories/

In class we created an online prezzi to where we applied 'Barthes theory' to the blockbuster film 'Se7en'. We worked as a group to talk about cultural, semantic, symbolic, proairetic and hermeneutic relating the codes to the film itself in various ways, for example the hermeneutic code relates to the film by creating mystery and leaving the audience open to create their own ending to what could of happened to detective Mills.

My film trailer

My thriller film trailer will start by a plain black screen showing the producers (e.g. Lionsgate, universal..), After the voice over will start, it will be a deep, dark husky voice to create tension then while that is being said it will start by showing various photos of the girl and her only best friend on the wall all throughout their childhood. The camera will then pan to a clock indicating that time is passing by, then to an old looking teddy bear that belongs to the young girl. A newspaper article explaining the young girls suspicious death will be shown laid out on a wooden table. Suddenly the clip will flash back in time to a drunken man, (the girls father) shouting at Emily (the young girl) then smacks her across the face, the camera followers her as she runs to her room then shows her sitting in front of the door so her can't get in, crying, clutching her teddy bear. Zooms in to show the emotion on her face. After another plain black screen, with written language "This Summer" "Where fact" "Becomes Reality" "Based on a true story" will appear then a clip of her running into a dark forest is shown just before this the music will speed up to create tension. After that her mother will tell her that Emily passed away last night where the girl reacts by screaming and crying where they're both hugging. The trailer will end with Emily's bestfriend sitting by her grave crying to where she hears a faint whisper 'Amanda help me, save me Amanda' zooming in to get the girls reaction (shocked/scared) to which she replies with 'Emily' then a plain black screen appears with "Coming Soon" then a screen showing all the information like '2013, in theatres this summer', logo and the web address. All throughout the trailer intense music will be played to create tension for viewer but also make them actually want to go and get the full experience at the cinema, instead of illegally downloading it.

Feedback

My peers wrote helpfull feedback on post it notes about my blog and my idea for my 'thriller' film. I recieved mainly positive feedback about the layout and idea, also how they feel i could make it effective towards my target audience. However, that i could need to do more research on horror and thriller films to get an more in-depth idea of how to improve my idea itself, i aim to acknowledge all requirements and improve my blog to gain higher marks.

Structuralism

As you can see from the image above recently in class we created a flip chart paper anaylising the poster of 'Taken' taking in all the conventions and their significance. As for example the well known character 'Liam Neesome' is clearly stated by image and written dialogue which  is significant as it could possibly make the audience more willing to go and watch the film as he has been in many blockbusters.

Voiceover

'Every night she dreams the
same
Haunted by a shadow again and again
Captured and lost in a giant mace
There is no way to flee
She begs not to fall asleep
And she prays to god to set
her free
She is so afraid to see
The shadow she fears is me..'

This quote will be spoken by a voiceover during part of the film trailer, this is to create suspense for the target audience. it will be played when a clip of the girl who bullied the dead girl is being haunted by the dead girl.

Inspirational Text

This particular image inspired me to do a film based on a sad young child being abused as more people should acknowledge this similar events, also it that constantly occurs in day to day life. I personally feel the majority of people think this particular situation of children being domestically abused only happens within films and tend to forget it reoccurs within there life. My purpose of the film is to promote that this similar situation is unacceptable and negative consequences will occur, also encouraging anyone being bullyed both physically and mentally to go and get help from either a parent, teacher, police... life can get better even if it feels like it can't get any worse. Also that noone should be victumised in such a voilent way.

Inspirational Text

This particular image inspires me for my film  to be mainly filmed within dark, cold, isolated surrounding as it creates tension for the audience. A cemetery is associated with death and loneliness, so i personally believe this particular scenary is effective towards my target audience, as it gets the point across but creating an eery atmosphere. It also empathises the theme of death within the film itself.
Some ideas i have for my 'thriller' movie is
- Case 14
- Stolen
- The lost girl
- The challange
-  Silent Child
- My only friend
- Inseprable
- Alienated
- Revenge
- A message from the other side
- The rose
- Whisper
- Forever Young
- Beyond
- Beyond understanding
- Still with us
- An angel amoung us
- An unseen flower
- Unseen
- Message from an angel
-  Hear my cry
- The visitation

Moodboard

I created a mood board and as my movie is based on the genre of 'thriller/trailer'. I have decided to included various image that happen to remind me of the conventions of a typical thriller movie, but also images that will occur within my film aswell. I like how on one of the images the girl looks very upset as in my film a similar situation will occur as she is constantly bullied by her fellow peers at school, but also but her alcoholic father. A teddy bear will be a main prop within my film as it is a symbol of the young girls sensitive side, as a teddy bear is usually present to feel comfort. The blood indicates that death may occur along with the 'caution' tape which creates suspense for the target audience as they are unaware as to what may happen to a particular character within the film, death is a typical convention within a horror/thriller trailer to create thrills and mystery for the target audience. The dark forest is a significant location within  my film as it is where the young girl is innocently, mysteriously murdered, but also dark, isolated forests are related to horrors as death typically occurs within them. The man hiding behind the bushes references a stalker, giving an indication that the young girls stalker may have been a stalker, but also stalker is a significant convention within a horror/thriller trailer as their obsession usually drives them crazy. The dark black background gives an insight into the deep, negative genre and that a bad situation is going to occur within the film.

Inspirational Text

I researched both good and bad 'thriller' movie titles and my favourite ones are
- Pulp fiction
- The silence of the lambs
- Seven
- The lives of others
- The departed
- Touch of evil

But also some 'thriller' movie titles i wasn't so inspired by
- Raindrops
- Blood Deep
- Leather and Iron

Both these have inspired me in various ways and have given me a range of ideas for a title for my 'thriller' movie.
This particular image is significant as it relates to my film. The girl is currently an oiutcast within her peers at school as they constantly bully her. It reflects every day occurance and influenced me personally to try and promote the situation of people being bullied through my film, so the audience become aware of the circumstances they may not of been before, through how the victum may react to certain situations and other various features. It also has a deeper underlining as it reflects how rough her child hood actually is as she is not only just bullied at school but by her drunken father back at home. Similar situations occurs in life and people are unaware as they don't know how to spot is something similar to this is occuring near by.

Inspirational Text

This is a similar image to where i have decided to shoot a scene within my trailer for my horror/thriller film. To create an eerie atmosphere for the target audience as the tall trees surrounded by darkness is a gothic element, as the audience will be expecting for something negative to occur within these, this will hopefully encourage them to actually watch the film as i have given the hint that something is going to happen they are unaware as to what, why or when. I like how it is in the dark with a touch of sunlight to present a negative feeling but showing that something positive may occur from the whole situation itself.

Media Language Activity

Structualism has various approaches including Semiotics, Binary Oppositions, Enigma Codes, Narrative Structure and many more.  The whole idea orginated in France in the 1950s by the work of 'Ferdanan Saussure', Saussure believed that everything couldn't be understoof as isolation and people had to look at the 'bigger picture' and realise that various particular structures build up to form larger structures. Structuralism is attributed to various texts by the human mind which is very often based upon the cultural experience, for example we as humans signify the colour red as danger, not to enter or stop just overall as a negitive colour. To take a structual approach on something is to look at the 'bigger picture' instead of the individual text but to what actual influenced that particular piece of text as for example racism and Margret Thatcher influenced 'This is England'. Basically structuralists believe people should not just concentrate on one individual piece of text but to actually shift their attention from 'eggs to chickens' which generally means think outside the box to where the text came from and what influenced it.

For my G324 work at A2 i have chosen to create a trailer therefore to give me knowledge i will analyse another professional trailer or a poster that relates to my work i personally find inspirational, i would do this by anaylis what i see, the lighting, props used, and generally just the mise-en-scene that forms the whole text.

As you can see from the text above, a poster from the film 'Taken 2'. The use of the dark, negitive colours indicate that something negitive will happen in the film, The 'Taken 2' is in red which signifys that danger that will occur throughout the whole of the film. I personally find the white writing on the dark background very effective as it is contrasting and creates tension for the viewer as they're unaware of what is going to happen. The props used are dangerous, for example a gun, can kill someone which is foreshadowing for the viewer but indicates that Liam Neeson is most likely going to maybe defend himself of harm someone or something for some reason or another. Also the fact the producers have clearly stated 'Liam Neeson' is a main character within the film indicates it will be good film and more people are likely to want to see the film as he is a well known international actor that always plays a good role within a particular film. Lastly, the fact he is sitting on a chair within a dark room signifys he has maybe been captured of feels lonely for some reason or another.

Overall i personally think that the poster is very effective and will make the audience want to go and see 'Taken 2' due to various reasons, but it is a good way of promoting the film itself.

Pitch

What I would like to do is create a film about a young child that was bullied all throughout her childhood while also being abused by her father, she has no friends untill half way through primary school where she gains a popular bestfriend. But suddenly she goes missing then is suspiciously found dead and starts to revisit and haunt her bullies. Her only best friend stands by her as she explains everything how she died. I will get my friends to feature as the main characters within the film but also have the setting in various areas like in a dark forest, the cemetery, primary school but also a home to create a more realistic feeling that various viewers can relate to as the target audience who I believe will be 15-40. The genre of the film is going to be thriller as the whole film is based upon a eerie unusual plot.  I will create a front cover of a film magazine featuring the my film but also a poster with different images but both not giving too much away what the film is about by the image itself, just various little clues so the audience are keen to watch the film to find out for definite. I intend to use various props ranging from school equipment to set the scene, home furniture to also set the scene, but also teddies and various other kids toys to create more of a 'spooky' atmosphere as they are known to keep a child happy but it is ironic as in this particular situation they are used as the opposite. There will be mood music to create tension for the audience.

Proposal

The brief I have decided to pursue is 'A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following "a website homepage for the film, a film magazine front cover featuring the film or a poster for the film". I chose this particular brief as it is the one that interested me the most out of them all.

Reflection of AS Coursework...

I personally believe that i have gained many various skills from my AS coursework of creating my own music magazine, however i do think the main skills i achieved was the use of photoshop and how familiar i got with various tools included in the programme itself, which led to me producing a unique music magazine with its own trade mark within the music magazine industry. I do personally believe that my magazine could have been improved further to achieve a higher overall grade, but i will use what i have learned to make my A2 media coursework a better quality. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed completing my AS media coursework and have learned many skills and qualities which i intend to use in the future.
