Film cover research

I researched various horror/thriller film front covers that feature the film itself. I found these following two the most effective towards me for various reasons.

This particular one if effective towards me as the main imaged used is a close-up shot of the main character wearing dark makeup to express something happens to him within the film itself, giving hints to the audience about what may happen. the dark background creates tension and a eerie atmosphere. The big title of the name of the magazine itself is printed across the top of the page so people are able to recognise the magazine and likely want to buy it. i prefer this layout of the magazine as it doesn't look to clustered and in the readers face and shows important aspects that they need to know.

This specific magazine front cover featuring a film, uses an effective image as it is unusual and the reader is unlikely to have seen a similar image like this on a front cover making this particular one distinctive and rememberable. Again 'Empire' is printed across the top of the page so people are able to recognise the magazine itself. The writing is spread all over the page, which i am unsure whether or not it is effective towards the reader because maybe they find it difficult to take in all of the various information.
