Equipment

Equipment Required

The equipment required to complete my A2 Media coursework will be a computer featuring the software 'Photoshop' so i am able to modify and make my poster and magazine front cover look professional and effective towards my target audience. This particular software is overly useful as it  is the most leading and popular graphic editing software provided by the adobe system is used to edit various kinds of images, it allows you to colour correct your images, prepare them for printing or web design web pages, create gif animations, you can modify images by painting or drawing on them by using the drawing tools, along with many other techniques. Another significant piece of equipment required for my to complete my trailer is a camera that allows me to video footage, this is a requirement as without i wouldn't be able to shoot my footage for my horror/thriller trailer, i may require a tripod especially for the scene where the young girl is being chased into the dark isolated forest.

My Storyboard

The images below are my storyboard explaining the scenes throughout my thriller/horror trailer for my film which i have decided to call 'Hear My Cry', as i do believe it is a very effective title that viewers are likely to remember as it is plain and simple, but has a very deep meaning relating to the film itself. As the main didactic purpose of the text is always seek justice and never settle till you succeed even if you feel like you are unable to. The hand drawn images are indicating what is going to happen in each specific scene. The trailer will start with photos of two young girls (best friends) to indicate to the audience that they're the main chacarters within the film. After a jump cut to a close-up of a clock is shown, indicating that the camera is going to pan around the clock with an empathesised 'tick-tock' sound to create tension for the audience, the deeper meaning of the ticking clock is that time is passing quickly, however the audience is unaware to why time is passing and the consequence of what may happen if the time runs out, this hopefully encourages them to visit the cinema and view the whole film. Another jump cut to a rough looking teddy bed on a messy bed appears on the screen at a medium shot that again the camera carries on in pan mode to pretend to be the audience looking around the young girls room. A newspaper article appears on the screen after a black screen express a murderer of a young girl, this is indicating to the audience that a murder occurs within the film, they will be curious as to who is the victim but also why. A extreme long shot of a young girl running into a dark forest with dim lighting suddenly flashes onto the screen, while the music gets faster creating tension for the viewer as they don't know what is going to happen to her, is she the girl that dies but how? After a rough looking man appears on the screen at a medium shot, screaming, the shot will be as if we as the audience are the young girl getting wrong by who we later find out is her father who is an alcohol and frequently abuses her.

A extreme close-up in bright lightening appears of the young girl crying to show her expression and hopefully make the audience sympathise with her. The trailers jump cuts to present and past to confuse the audience and create excitement. A black screen suddenly appears presenting the words "THIS SUMMER..WHERE FACT...BECOMES REALITY...BASED ON A TRUE STORY", this is a basic overview as to when the film, 'Hear My Cry' will be released, also creating tension b the use of 'Based on a true story' as i personally feel is its based on a true story the audience are more likely to sympathise with the character.A bright scene of different young girl hugging her mother appears on the screen, we later find out if you watch the film that this young girl is the victims best friend. It will be shown in a low angle long shot to indicate that we have less authority than the young girl as in the next few scenes of the trailer she is able to speak to her dead best friend and hopefully help her seek justice by finding her murderer. After, another long point of view shot showing the best friend at the victims grave which suddenly zooms into a extreme close-up of her face after the victim whispers 'Help me...' This is a supernatural element of the dead communicating with the living as it is unnatural and doesn't occur often. Not many of the audience will have witnessed a circumstance even similar to this so it will create thrill and make them want to watch the whole film to find out every little detail of who murdered the girl? does he get caught? what happens to her? how do they find out who murdered the young girl? ect The trailer ends when the music fades out, it will be another black screen featuring the words "COMING SOON...2013 IN CINEMA...THIS SUMMER" along side the website "www.hearmycry.co.uk" so anyone interested in any information about the film 'Hear My Cry' , are able to find out they inquires.

Audience Theories that relate to my media A2 coursework

The 'Uses and Gratifications theory' by Blumler and Katz 1974 can be applied to my A2 media coursework of a thriller trailer in various ways.
Diversion; The target audience may want to form an escape by going to the cinema to view this particular film in the full experience as they may have spare time on there hands and generally want to just relax by having a chilled night without any personal worries.
Personal Relationships; The target audience may be two best friends who realise that have a similar relationship as the one in the film, or anoher example would be a young girl linking her lifestyle to the one that the young girl has before she passes away.
Personal Identity;  Again, the target audience may have similar situations that they can relate to within the film for example if a particular person has just experienced a death they can relate as their is a death that occurs in my film, or if someone is/was bullied they can sympathises and connect directly to the film as it was an experience that they have witnessed for themselves in various ways. Lastly they may relate to someone within the film that they actually look up to and admire.
Surveillance; This would be taking note of other peoples lifestyles and showing the possible consequences of bullying innocent people. The film basically inidcates bullying is bad and consequences occur to a certain extent.

Stuart Hall
Know as the reception theory.
Dominant Reading; For a dominant reading within my film the target audience may resemble and fully believe situations in the way i actually intended them too. As they relate to the characters in particular ways, by their personalitys and reactions to certain aspects and situations. Basically in a positive way that i wanted them to.
Negotiated Reading; A negotiated reading for my target audience would be having various interpretations, mainly because of a particular person relating the film to personal experiences sometimes good and sometimes bad.
Oppositional Reading; This could relates as the target audience has various social positions which could make them rejects the film, maybe due to ceratin situations or characters within the film that they disapprove of for some reason.
Polysemy; My film will have multiple meanings being expressed by particular events that occur within the film but also ranging to characters and their reactions to ceratin situations. For example a viewer may interpret that a mysterious death occuring is interesting and keeping them on edge however another may find this particular event offensive resulting in not liking the film overall and upsetting a particular viewer. Also various viewers of the film may interpret certain meanings in various ways, both good and bad.
Third ideologies; The viewers will come up with seperate thoughts and ideas on particular events that occur within my thriller trailer.

Elements To Consider - A2 Media Coursework

Narrative: The narrative of my film that I am producing a trailer for is about a young girl who was bullied all throughout her childhood, but also abused by her father then suddenly she goes missing then is found died. She still communicates with her only best friend as she is trying to get her to find her murderer. I believe my film trailer will be an open structure as it denies resolution by leaving the audience to wonder what is going to happen next, hopefully making them want to go and get the full experience at the cinema by watching the movie.
Genre: The genre of my film is going to be thriller to create tension for the audience but to also keep them on edge to what is going to happen next. Therefore structuralism applies which the main code Hermeneutic from Barthes theory as it doesn’t give away the full truth and avoids telling certain facts about the narrative itself.
Characterisation: My main character that dies and is bullied all her childhood by peers but also her father will be timid, scared and weary of others, but contrast to that her only friend will be outgoing, confident and gets along with others very easily. Therefore Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions also applies to my film as the two main characters within my film are complete opposites however have a close relationship that links them together. The father is abusive, confident and heartless again contrast to his daughter, this is to show the contrast between certain people that the audience are able to relate to as they may know particular people that suit the stereotypes used within the film/trailer.
Setting: The main setting of the film will be located in a dark and gloomy forest where the young girl dies to create an eerie atmosphere for the audience but also a similar place they may recognise so they’re again able to relate to it as it is an area that resembles trouble within other particular horror/thriller scene especially in the dark. Another main place will be a graveyard to signifying the young girls death but also the relationship between the two best friends as it is the first place the friend hears or has connection with the dead young girl since she past away.
Props: I will use a wide range of props ranging from grave stones to basic furniture. A significant prop I will include in the film is a teddy bear to symbolise the young girl but also they’re often used to represent a child but ironically in this circumstance it resembles death and loss due  to the death of the young girl, but it is the only physical item the best friend has of the dead young girl to remind her excluding memories, however it is also the only thing that connects the two girls together.
Costume: The costume of the young dead girl will be dark, ripped like clothing to represent she has had a traumatic experience, with dark and light makeup to symbolise a dead look. Again contrast to this her best friend will be fashionable with bright clothing therefore, binary opposition applies to my film trailer again representing the contrast between the two best friends.
Cast: I will have various cast members.

DVD Covers

I have chosen three dvd covers i personally find effective and useful to help me decide my final image for my dvd cover on my thriller movie.

This particular image i personally feel is overly effect due to the butterfly covering the models mouth, i like this as it could relate to my thriller movie as she is unable to speak and save herself and has her best friend to do everything for her to try and find her killer. The close up of the white face and red eyes signifys the horror and danger the younge girl felt when she was murdered but could also represent her whole childhood of been bullied.

The image above i find very effective as it is unquie and unusal. The low angle of the lower body with the blood is also relevant to my movie trailer as the young girl was murdered and no-one knows who commited the crime. I would contrast the image from a bright background to a dark gloomy forest like image to create tension for the viewer as in my movie the girl runs into the forest.

The last image i found inspiring was the one above as the over the shoulder, close-up shot shows the horror and expression on the girls face which is significant as the young girl in my movie trailer has felt that all her life but especially when she was murdered. The dark makeup to create bruising and blood i find effective as is it very relevant and makes the audience wounder how she recieved this particular damage which makes them want to view the film for themselves.

Prezi Presentation

http://prezi.com/t9pcwxxaqqnh/seven-barthes-theories/

In class we created an online prezzi to where we applied 'Barthes theory' to the blockbuster film 'Se7en'. We worked as a group to talk about cultural, semantic, symbolic, proairetic and hermeneutic relating the codes to the film itself in various ways, for example the hermeneutic code relates to the film by creating mystery and leaving the audience open to create their own ending to what could of happened to detective Mills.
